Media and Development (3 hrs)
A course exploring cross cultural communications and the role of media in third-world development work. This course is designed as a preparatory class for your internship.
Field Experience (6-8 hrs)
Students will intern with a local organization on a specific project in the field. Projects vary and can include anything from urban youth projects, educational projects, work with remote farming communities, or in the main offices in public relations or media development. All of this depends on your interests and the project's availability. Credit towards a department's major (field education/internship) is granted at the discretion of each department. Students should check with his/her adviser when considering the program.
Development Seminar (1 hr)
This course is an orientation to the cross-cultural, multidisciplinary development activities of the Nehemiah Center and considers social justice issues in both Nicaragua and around the world.
History and Culture of Nicaragua (3 hrs)
This course covers both the history of Nicaragua as well as that of Central America as a whole. Students also study the politics, pop culture, and traditions of the vibrant and diverse people that make up Nicaraguan society. This course also includes a series of weekend historical and cultural visits.
A Spanish Language course (3 hrs) is required for students who do not have the equivalent of one year of college-level Spanish study. Advanced level Spanish courses as well as individual tutoring are available for all students.
